The Mouvement québécois de la qualité (MQQ) is a non-profit organization created in 1995 and specialized in quality control and best business practices in Québec-based organizations. It offers a number of services, including: performance networks, the Qualimetre support service providing world-class performance diagnostics, a training program composed of approximately 40 courses, and the “Québec Quality Awards” event, offering Québec Government recognition for outstanding management practices in companies and organizations.

The Mouvement québécois de la qualité (MQQ), in collaboration with the Ministère de l’Énergie et des Ressources naturelles (MERN) and Arcelor Mittal Mines Canada, has set up a new performance network for mining sector companies.

This new network follows in the footsteps of the 22 other performance networks created by the MQQ since 2006. Each network is composed of roughly 20 people with the same level of responsibility, working for companies in the same activity sector. The group meets four to five times per year, and can count on the skills and knowledge of a moderator in ongoing improvement to facilitate dialogue and encourage participation. The meetings are held at the premises of one of the member firms.

The networks provide opportunities for company leaders, quality control managers and professional development managers to discuss best business practices and everyday problems, and to seek solutions that can be adapted to their specific contexts. The MERN, as the governing member, provides the MQQ with $12,000 in funding. It will also be part of the new performance network.

As pointed out by Luc Blanchette, Québec’s Minister for Mines, in a press release announcing the creation of the new network, ongoing improvement of the mining sector is a priority for the Québec Government. “The new network is clearly in line with this priority, and is perfectly consistent with the strategic vision of mine development that we will be unveiling this fall,” said the Minister. “Québec’s mining sector firms are known throughout the world for their expertise and innovative practices. By sharing their knowledge of best business practices, I am convinced they will help make Québec a leader in organizational performance.”
