Speaker: Institut national des mines (INMQ)

Description: This day of conferences and exchanges organized by the INMQ will provide an opportunity to learn more about the latest trends in mining training in order to better respond to challenges that accompany the emergence of smart mining. The skills required by the mining industry workforce of the 21st century, the educational innovations that are currently driving mining training, as well as advances in robotics, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity are some of the topics discussed during the day, where training, innovation and new technologies will be featured prominently.

Explo Challenge

Description: Québec Mines + Énergie is launching a challenge to university students to promote mining entrepreneurship and excellence!

The challenge:

  • A team of three students per university, including two from first cycle;
  • A Québec prospecting sector;
  • A workstation containing all available geoscientific data;
  • Twelve hours to develop an exploration program and prepare a PowerPoint presentation.

The team must consist of at most three students. The winners will receive a scholarship.

Student Contest – Society of Exploration Geophysicists (Challenge Bowl)

Place: Exhibition Hall, Hydro-Québec stage

Presented by: Society of Exploration Geophysicists

Description: The Québec Mines + Énergie Congress is proud to welcome the Québec edition of the Challenge Bowl, an international contest organized by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. The Challenge Bowl is a questionnaire-based game for university level students. Working in teams of two, participants must use their knowledge of geophysics and Earth sciences to answer a series of multiple choice questions. The winning team will represent Québec in the Canadian final in Calgary, and may subsequently have an opportunity to attend the world championships in the United States. Please note that the contest will take place in English.

Announcement from the UQAT-Polytechnique Research Institute on Mines and Environment

Description: By the end of 2019, the Research Institute on Mines and Environment (RIME) will have completed the initial phase of its research program. The program is the result of a $10 million partnership with the mining industry and is the only one of its kind in Canada. The completion of the initial phase is an important milestone for the Institute, Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Polytechnique Montréal, and RIME’s industry partners.
