Hydroelectric development in Québec

The total hydroelectric generating capacity available in Québec is around 40 000 MW. Some major water resources remain to be developed; their potential is estimated at 45 000 MW, of which around 20 000 MW is economically viable in the current context.

The Government has launched major hydroelectric projects. The projects will fully secure the electricity supply for all Quebecers, and allow Québec to regain its place on export markets.
