Social Acceptability

The Ministère de l’Énergie et des Ressources naturelles (MERN) unveiled the five guidelines for social acceptability on January 24, 2017.

The guidelines follow on from an analysis of the MERN’s planning and management practices and tools, carried out in the fall of 2015. They also reflect the concerns raised during special consultations on the Green Paper, and the Québec Government’s intention to do everything it can to foster dialogue between the parties and reconcile economic prosperity with respect for the environments in which people must live.

The social acceptability guidelines are an important tool, and will be used to ensure that land, energy and mineral resources are developed in the best possible way, based on as broad a consensus as possible in the host communities.
